Want to Reclaim Your Time, Lose Overwhelm, and Do Less Better? You Can!
You have great ideas and know you are meant to make an impact. In fact, you probably are already changing the lives of those around you.
And also, you are busy. You keep adding your to-do list. You are sure if you just worked harder, you could make that impact.
We live in a culture that promotes constant hustle and accomplishment at all costs. We are bombarded with messages to do more, do better, do it all.
But what if it’s not about doing more. more. more, but what if it is actually around doing less? And not just doing less and, therefore, achieving less. What if we did less, but did it better?
What if we were more impactful in our work, relationships, and day-to-day actions?
What if we celebrated our wins, rather than constantly beating ourselves up for what we haven’t done?
What if we could start our days feeling empowered rather than frazzled, and end our days feeling accomplished rather than disappointed?
We can!
Focus First
Amazing things happen when you put focus first. We see that all the time in the Focus Sessions community.
Focus Sessions members are more focused and are achieving more. They:
- Have started new businesses
- Are writing memoirs and novels
- Increase revenue while decreasing the time they spend working
- Prioritize their personal wellness, family, and the things that bring them joy
Becoming more focused helps them decide where they want to put their attention and energy — and to actually do the things they want to do. All of us can do this when we put focus first.
But what about productivity?
If you prioritize focus, productivity will follow.
Productivity is the by-product of focus. Our productivity, or specifically what we can produce in a set amount of time, is variable and therefore difficult to measure. Sometimes tasks take longer than you expect, or you’re stuck waiting on someone else before you can proceed.
If you base your success on how much you produce, you might be disappointed by something that was actually out of your control. If you prioritize focus, it will always lead to better results.
Reclaim Your Time by Claiming Your Focus
I’ve said this before but it bears repeating: You don’t need more time, you need more focus. See what happens when you choose to focus on the things that matter most, that move you toward your big goals and dreams … instead of trying to do all the things.
Yabbut … I have 5237 emails I haven’t dealt with, my kid forgot their soccer uniform, I promised to run the school dance, bills, laundry, my team keeps asking questions, my car needs and oil change, my client’s having a crisis …
Whew! That’s a lot.
Remember: You are in charge of your day.
You can choose to block off time to focus on the things that matter to you first and fit the other pieces in. You can detox your calendar, prioritize the right tasks, and stop letting your to-do list actually sabotage your productivity.
Focus is hard to access, especially now, but you can use brain science to work more efficiently instead of working more. We do both in Focus Sessions.
Do Less Better and Get Out of Overwhelm
So how do you do less better? How do you ditch overwhelm?
- Start with the big picture. Remember your why and let your purpose and vision guide you.
- Don’t put goals on your to-do list. When we break down goals into tasks and schedule the tasks, we feel less overwhelmed and we can actually do something to move forward.
- Take charge of your time. Try these time affirmations and tips.
- Simplify! Delegate. Streamline. Systematize. It is really possible to do less better.
- Learn how to focus. Breathwork, music, setting intentions, a focus flow.
- Know your own overwhelm triggers and what gets you out of overwhelm.
In a scattered world that pushes us to hustle harder, focus is hard to come by. But focus is a super power. When you learn what to focus on, how to make time for focus, and how to focus, you’ll be amazed at the impact you can make.
I’ve spent years unlearning hustle culture. I’ve leaned hard into the idea of doing less better.
I’ve learned to let my purpose be the North Star for my plans. I’ve learned that business is part of life, and business planning has to happen in the context of my whole life. I’ve learned to break my projects into a task and to schedule those tasks.
And I’ve learned how to focus. I set focus time each week to plan, to do my deep work, and to clear the deck.
I’ve put that together in a book: Focused: Reclaim your time, ditch overwhelm, and do less better. It’s coming out at the end of the month. Let’s get focused together!
